Greetings from southern California. Every year at this time the Palm Springs Air Museum holds a unique event, a salute to Canada and the history and heritage of our Armed Forces with particular emphasis on the RCAF. This year's event will take place this Saturday, 8 March.
JUDITH GRIERSON MAKES BCATP PRESENTATION
PALM SPRINGS AIR MUSEUM
Judith Grierson of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Brandon, Manitoba will be kicking off the day with a presentation highlighting the extraordinary success of the BCATP program during World War II. Her presentation will take place at 11:00 AM.
Immediately following lunch at 1:00 PM I will have the honour of paying tribute to the Canadian Forces and RCAF. I will do so by briefly tracing the history of powered flight in Canada which eventually led to the formation of the RCAF in the aftermath of World War I. I will ultimately illustrate how aerial exhibitions came to thrill and inspire several generations of Canadian youth to aviation careers, just as national aerobatic teams around the world continue to do today. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the RCAF and its proud traditions.
Following my presentation, the museum will be selling rides in three vintage RCAF aircraft, including two owned and beautifully restored by former RCAF Sabre pilot Harry Schoning. For those wishing to really cap off a memorable day, a flight in a vintage Tiger Moth, Chipmunk or Harvard will provide lasting memories.
For those who have never visited the Palm Springs Air Museum, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. It stands as a fitting tribute to the tens of thousands of veterans who have served their country in times of peace and war.
If you, or friends you know, happen to be vacationing in the Palm Springs area, please let them know about the museum's tribute to Canada this Saturday. I believe you will find the hosts at the museum to be most welcoming as they salute their allies to the north.
